There Are No Words

When I was a child, I sometimes poured my heart out with songs that would rise up in me. I would sing them quietly on walks in the woods, surrounding the mountain cabin in Colorado where we would spend our summers. And as a teenager, I would sing them quietly on walks at a neighborhood park, on warm, humid nights back home in the city. Sometimes I would hum them in my room. But always quietly. These songs were my heart and I kept them closely protected. Besides, I couldn’t sing.

In college I started to learn to play the guitar (Thanks Kip!). And for the first time, I could start to breathe some real music into my songs. I moved to the Colorado Front Range after college, to be close to the mountains I loved. I would often drive up to the high country and play guitar and sing my songs, on a mountain top, or in a forest by a secluded mountain stream. And I gradually began to dare to share some of my songs now and then, even though it felt so vulnerable and raw and exposing and scary.

My deep longing to KNOW and LIVE and reconnect with what life is TRULY about would sometimes well up from deep within me and express in a song. And when I shared those songs with others, so surprisingly to me, some felt a response within themselves. And some encouraged me to give more time and attention and love to sharing my songs.

I don’t know what will unfold, if anything, from recording some of these simple songs and offering them here. But sharing them more is something my heart has yearned to do for a long, long time, in spite of my hesitations. I am truly grateful for the chances I have had to sing for small and larger groups in different situations, and I’m hopeful there will be many more chances to come.

Thanks for visiting, and for giving a few of these song a listen. Feel free to download any if you wish.

Gratefully,

Bryant
